College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics


The goal of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is to offer quality instruction in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines to prepare our graduates for rewarding careers. The College offers baccalaureate degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Mathematics. Additionally, it has robust programs for pre-engineering and a Bachelor of General Studies with a Concentration in Professional Aviation. Interdisciplinary opportunities are also available to prepare students for professional training or careers in actuarial science, field biology, forensics, and secondary school teaching. We encourage students to explore our programs for more details. The College offers comprehensive programs within three departments - Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Physics, and Mathematics & Computer Science.

Interim College Dean

Nathan Sammons, Ph.D.

Dr. Nathan Sammons, an Associate Professor of Biology, holds a Ph.D. in Botany/Plant Biology from Michigan State University. He served as the chair of the Department of Biological Sciences for three years and since Fall 2022 has served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Engaged Teaching and Learning, a position that involves promoting innovation in academic and co-curricular initiatives, identifying career pathways and incorporating career exploration into program curricula, and working across campus to assess the goals and objectives of the LSUA Strategic Plan. Since March 2024, Dr. Sammons has also served as the Interim Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
