Health and Physical Education Certification-Only Alternate Path Program: Grades K-12

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health and Physical Education (Certification-Only Alternate Path Program Grades K-12) allows individuals who have earned a non-teacher education baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university to fulfill state requirements for Health and Physical Certification K-12.

Admission Requirements

  1. be accepted to the university;

  2. possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university and have an overall GPA of at least 2.2 on all undergraduate coursework;

  3. pass PRAXIS II: Health and Physical Education;

  4. complete the admissions application and submit to the School of Education;

  5. complete background check with parish in which observation and participation requirements will be met if not Teacher of Record; 

  6. receive approval from the School of Education faculty of completed application for entry into LSUA’s Certification-Only Alternate Path Program, Grades K-12, Health and Physical Education;

  7. Meet any additional requirements specified by the School of Education.

Residency Requirements EDCI 4940  

  1. possess a grade point average of at least 2.5 in all coursework required for certification;

  2. pass PRAXIS II: Principles of Learning and Teaching: K-6 or 5-9 or 7-12; 

  3. complete all coursework with a grade of “C” or higher in all professional courses;

  4. complete required FEX hours if not Teacher of Record.

Request for State Certification

When program completers have met all of the above criteria, they are proposed to the Louisiana State Department of Education for certification in Health and Physical Education, grades K-12.
