Early Childhood Education (PK-3) Certification

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Early Childhood Education allows individuals who are already state-certified teachers to complete the coursework required for add-on certification in Early Childhood Education (PK-3).

Required Courses (12-15 Hours)

• ECED 2001 - Introduction to Early Childhood Education  and/or ECED 3601 - Social Development of Young Children  Credits: 3-6

Note: Early Childhood Board of Regents Recognition requires that students take both the above courses.

• ECED 2002 - Curriculum in Early Childhood Education  Credits: 3
• ECED 2999 - Practicum in Early Childhood Education  Credits: 3
• ECED 3000 - Children’s Literature and Emergent Literacy  Credits: 3

Graduation Requirements

• a grade of “C” or higher in each required course

Requirements for State Certification

• be certified to teach in the State of Louisiana
• have completed all Graduation Requirements for the PBC in Early Childhood Education (PK-3)
• have nine semester hours in the teaching of reading and literacy
• pass Praxis Teaching Reading Elementary or Elementary Education Teaching Reading Subset
