Visual and Performing Arts The Bachelor of General Studies degree program is designed for students interested in interdisciplinary education. The degree program includes a core academic base and allows for flexibility in selecting an area of concentration. The program is especially valuable for students who wish to 1) help design their own course of study in a degree program; 2) change college majors late in their academic careers; 3) return to college as mature students with new career interests; 4) attend college irregularly or at night; or 5) pursue a non-traditional degree program for personal enrichment and satisfaction. Student Learning Outcomes -
Graduates with the Bachelor of General Studies degree will meet the competencies in General Education established by the university for all baccalaureate degrees. -
Graduates with the Bachelor of General Studies degree will meet the competencies for the Area of Concentration established by their respective department. Admission Requirements Students must meet all requirements for admission to the university. The Bachelor of General Studies program has no separate or special admission requirements. Degree Requirements -
Students must complete all of the requirements pertaining to baccalaureate degrees as specified in Degree Requirements . -
Students must complete at least 45 semester hours at the 3000 level or above and at least 15 semester hours at the 4000 level. -
Students must declare a 27-hour Area of Concentration and two 12-hour Enrichment Blocks during their first semester of enrollment in the program. Their initial selection of both the Area of Concentration and Enrichment Blocks can be changed subsequently. -
Of the 27 hours required by the Area of Concentration, nine must be at the 3000-4000 level. -
Students are required to make a “C” or higher in all courses applied toward the Area of Concentration. General Education Requirements

Students must take either six hours of biology and three hours of physical science or six hours of physical science (in a single discipline) and three hours of biology. Areas of Concentration
Students must complete 27 hours that can be applied to one of the Areas of Concentration. See below for courses required by specific concentrations: Arts Management
Courses taken must include the following: Aviation Management
Students must take ENGL 3002 , AVIA 1010 , and AVIA 1011 as part of their Elective Requirements. Students must take ACCT 2001 , MKTG 3401 , MGMT 3200 , and MGMT 4620 to meet the requirements of Enrichment Block I. Students must take DSEM 2010 , ECON 2020 , PSYC 2000 , and PSYC 4050 to meet the requirements of Enrichment Block II. Students must take each course listed below to meet the requirements of the Aviation Management Concentration: Cybersecurity
To meet their General Education Mathematics requirement, students must take MATH 1021 and MATH 2011 . Disaster Science and Emergency Management
Students must complete each of the courses listed below. They must also complete BIOL 2030 as part of their General Education Natural Science requirement. Graphic Design
Students must complete each course requirement listed below: In addition, FIAR 2661 , FIAR 2441 , FIAR 2881 , FIAR 3879 , FIAR 3881 , and six hours of additional FIAR courses must be taken to meet elective requirements. Students must also complete ENGL 2002 as part of their General Education Humanities requirement and FIAR 2440 as their required General Education Fine Arts course. Health Sciences

Students may take courses from any of the humanities disciplines: Africana Studies, Communication Studies, English, Foreign Language, History, Humanities, Interpretation, Philosophy, Religion. Organizational Studies
Students pursuing the concentration in Organizational Studies must take the following courses: In addition, students must take MATH 1021 as part of their six-hour General Education Mathematics requirement and BUSN 1001 as part of their General Education Social Science requirement. Pharmaceutical Sales
Students must complete each of the courses in the list below: In addition, students must ensure that a) one Enrichment Block includes BUSN 1001 , MGMT 3200 , MKTG 3401 ,and MKTG 4423 ; b) they take BIOL 1162 to meet Elective Requirements; and c) they take BIOL 1161 as part of their nine-hour General Education Natural Science requirement. Political Science
Students pursuing the concentration in Political Science will select courses after consultation with the Political Science faculty advisor. Political Science Secondary Education
Students who earn the Bachelor of General Studies with the Political Science Secondary Education Concentration will be able to obtain certification from the Louisiana Department of Education to teach Social Studies at the secondary level. Students pursuing the concentration must complete the following courses: To meet their concentration requirement, students must take 27 hours of political science courses, with at least nine hours at the 3000/4000 level. To meet their enrichment block requirement, students must take: ECON 2010 , SOCL 2001 , PSYC 2060 , PSYC 2078 , HIST 2055 , HIST 2057 , and six hours of 3000/4000-level history electives. To meet their elective requirement, students must take EDCI 2700 , EDCI 3040 , EDCI 3116 , EDCI 3800 , EDCI 4044 , EDCI 4200 , EDCI 4945 , and GEOG 1003 . To meet their General Education Social Science requirement, students must take GEOG 1001 and POLI 2051 . To meet their General Education Humanities requirement, students must take HIST 1001 and HIST 1003 . Pre-Law
Students must complete POLI 2051 and PSYC 2000 to meet their General Education Social Science requirement. To meet their Electives requirement, they must take POLI 2056 , BLAW 3201 , BLAW 3202 , nine hours of advanced History electives, nine hours of advanced Political Science electives, and three hours of Advanced Free Electives. To meet their Enrichment Block requirements, students must take the following courses: Block One [SOCL 2501 , ECON 2010 , PSYC 3001 , PSYC 3140 ]; Block Two: PHIL 1021 , PHIL 2020 , ENGL 2002 , ENGL 2010 ]. Students must complete each of the courses listed below to meet their concentration requirements. Professional Aviation
Students pursuing the concentration in Professional Aviation must complete the following courses to meet concentration requirements: In addition, they must complete the following courses to meet Elective requirements: To meet General Education Mathematics requirements, students must take MATH 1021 . And to meet General Education Natural Science requirements, students must complete three hours of GE Biology and either PHYS 2001 and PHYS 2002 OR PHSC 1001 and PHSC 1002 . Social Science
Students may choose courses in any of the following social science disciplines: Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Visual and Performing Arts:
Students may take any Fine Arts, Theatre, and Music courses. Political Science Secondary Education
Students who earn the Bachelor of General Studies with the Political Science Secondary Education Concentration will be able to obtain certification from the Louisiana Department of Education to teach Social Studies at the secondary level. Students pursuing the concentration must complete the following courses: - 27 hours of political science courses, with at least nine hours at the 3000/4000 level

Enrichment Blocks
Students must select two of the Enrichment Blocks listed below and earn twelve hours in each block. Electives
Courses taken to meet General Education requirements or Elective requirements cannot also be used to meet the requirements of an Area of Concentration or an Enrichment Block. The same course cannot be counted in two categories. Suggested Sequence of Courses
