BIOL 3542 - Management of Zoological Institutions Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Laboratory Hours: 0 This course will explore what is required to manage a zoological institution. Includes an in-depth understanding of the roles government and accrediting agencies play in zoological operations. Provides a detailed understanding of the business models under which the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) operate. Explores the differences in operating practices of zoos. Discusses how organizational makeup drives zoo operations and their ability to achieve conservation efforts. Covers the basic operations of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). Introduces the different AZA programs required for zoos to operate such as Species Survival Plans, DEAI committee, Green committee, Animal Welfare programs, Institutional Animal Representatives, and Institutional Animal Liaisons.
