The Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies offers students the opportunity to prepare for a variety of careers. Majors complete a rigorous, scholarly program developing the skills necessary to interpret a wide variety of religions. They become familiar with sacred texts and rituals and come to know how these have affected culture and history. Religious Studies majors become competent in a foreign language and acquire interdisciplinary knowledge. Graduates of the program go into business, medicine, education, ministry, advertising, health care, law, publishing, and social service professions. Some attend graduate school or pursue professional studies in divinity, law, business, or health care. Graduates are sought after in many fields for their people skills, their ability to think critically, and their sensitivity toward diversity.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Graduates will write clearly and effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences.
- Graduates will interpret religions critically and academically, taking into account cultural and historical contexts.
Admission Requirements
Students must meet all requirements for admission to the university. The Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies has no separate or special admission requirements.
Degree Requirements
- Students must complete all of the requirements pertaining to baccalaureate degrees as specified in Degree Requirements .
- Students must complete at least 36 hours at the 3000-level or higher with at least nine of these at the 4000-level.
- Students are required to make a grade of “C” or higher in each course applied toward Major Requirements.

General Education Requirements

Natural Sciences
Students must take either six hours of biology and three hours of physical science or six hours of physical science (in a single discipline) and three hours of biology.
